Care home provider Milewood Healthcare has just completed fit-out on a fully-funded, bespoke care home for one which is being hailed as a game-changer in social care.

Cleveland Villa, in Stockton-on-Tees, was built and designed for one resident and has living facilities for two staff.

The accommodation will become home to a young man with Down Syndrome who hadn’t responded well to a traditional, multi-resident care home.

The two-storey property will allow the resident to live more independently but without sacrificing the all-important round-the-clock care.

Milewood has equipped Cleveland Villa and will run the home which has been funded by the care home group itself.

The upstairs of the home has been completely remodelled with a large bedroom and the resident has been actively engaged in the aesthetics, choosing the decor.

Cleveland Villa represents a unique development for Milewood.

Ged Devine, who will manage Cleveland Villa among other homes in the North East, said:

“This has been a fantastic project to work on. The resident has been with us for some time, but we knew that he was better suited to a different environment.

“We’ve worked incredibly hard with his family to find the perfect solution and we wholeheartedly believe this is it.

“I’m really excited for the resident to move in and make Cleveland Villa his forever home.”

Martyn Heginbotham, CEO of Milewood, said:

“Cleveland Villa is a statement of intent. It shows what we are capable of at Milewood. This is a special, unique opportunity and a project that we have greatly invested in, both from a time and financial perspective.

“This kind of exciting solution shows the potential of what care providers can do. We are continuing to offer first-class care to our service users while enabling them to live happily and independently.

“I hope this proves to be the beginning of a move towards new and exciting ideas in the care sector to ensure care is provided in ways specific to the service users. We also hope that X will be happy in his fabulous new home.”

The resident’s mother, Mary, said:

“Ever since my son moved into supported living, it’s not been the right solution for him. So we’ve been working with Milewood to explore possibilities and together we’ve found an answer which is effectively a care home for one.

“It’s a brilliant solution and for him to be involved throughout, by choosing things like the paint for his room, means he’s just as excited and enthused as we are.

Ged has been absolutely brilliant and the staff are just lovely. It’s really like one big family, I couldn’t think of a better place for him.”

Milewood Healthcare runs 45 homes throughout the UK and is an established provider of forward-thinking living services for adults with disabilities.
